“You will always have the poor among you”. Jesus guaranteed us this. Poverty has habitually plagued New Orleans, Louisiana. Hurricane Katrina exposed the plight of generational poverty and the challenges these people face. Jesus spoke to me on my last trip to New Orleans. He said that if we will go work among the poor it will always change us. Are you ready to change New Orleans and be changed?

That is so true “if we will go and serve the poor there is a deeply spiritual change within us.” I think most often that change comes in the realization of my own self-centeredness. When I serve the poor I am forced to see how much I take the grace and goodness of God in my life for granted. Jesus said the poor would always be among us. I think in part because we need each other!
