Under the Overpass (We didn’t get the chance to share this on the bus as we thought, but we lived it for 3 days. If you haven’t yet, and in light of living it first hand, I highly suggest reading this book or grabbing the audio book – Amazing!)

Starving Jesus (Highly recommended but not required)

Irresistible Revolution (Again, highly recommended but not required)

  1. Note for Tulsans — Barnes and Noble in Tulsa does not carry Under the Overpass, but they have several copies of Irresistible Revolution. Both Mardell locations are sold out of Under the Overpass. If you order it from Mardells, it will arrive Tuesday.

PS – I was just kidding about the movie recommendation. I know no one wants to see Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. Even if folks wanted to see it, they wouldn’t want to hear me sing it. :)

  2. The author of Under the Overpass is Mike Yankoski…. It’s really good, can’t put it down…. The Tulsa Libary will have a copy in a few days…
    : )

  3. Since Tulsa is sold out of Under the Overpass, I picked up Irresistible Revolution. Author Shane Claiborne makes a good point. After discussing the Beatitudes, he says, “Rather than do what makes sense to us and ask God’s blessing, we’d do better to surround ourselves with those whom God promises to bless, and then we need not ask God’s blessing. it’s just what God does.”

In view of the world, this concept is radical, but in the light of scripture, it is completely sensible. I cannot wait to be surrounded by those who God comforts, those who will inherit the earth and those to whom He will give the Kingdom of Heaven.

  4. So, I just finished Under the Overpass and come to realize that I met Sam through my cousin about 8 months before he went on this quest with Mike. When I called my cousin to confirm that it was the same Sam, she informed me that I’ve known Mike’s wife for some time now (my cousin and his wife are best friends–I felt stupid for not putting 1 and 1 together) and that Mike will be coming to speak at the City Rescue Mission in September. She thought September 18th but was going to confirm. Great book and a fascinating read.
